16 Feb 2024 Zenny’s on the Hard

Well we hauled Zen Moments (soon to become Zenny M) to replace a thru-hull and the cutlass bearing… The name may have changed to Zimmerman’s Marine but every time they haul you out the “Deatons” (roughly $1K) just start piling up. …And look at this wobble in your Variprop…
It is a boat and you either pay or sink.

11 April: And now an update… 3 April we Moved Zenny back to slip 256 in Pecan Grove but we may not be done yet… The cutlass bearing may cost nearly twice what we were quoted, we took the prudent but costly route and sent the prop away to be refurbished (up to $1500 we were told but it will be over $1700 and took nearly a month – though the pitch may now be set a little better than before) then an $1800 paint job—but now we should be good to go right – nope, the shaft has more (or at least as much) wobble than before and an out of alignment transmission/shaft coupler may be the culprit. When this happened is not clear (may have been the shaft thru-bolt that was replaced then tightened and pulled it out of alignment by a few thousandths don’t know) but Gary the mechanic says, after a frustrating couple hours, says he’s got it as good as he can and its not right…. We took the boat out and ran it for over an hour 2400/2600/2800/3000 – 2600 seemed best for wobble but there is still more vibration than we would have called normal. So it goes.
